It's holiday time
A quick update to inform you there's no new official version this sunday (Merry christmas, btw :p). The version 1.00 have been downloaded more than 14000 times as of today (I didn't expect that :p), so I'm waiting for more feedbacks (and mostly time to solve important bugs). Besides, there's not much fixes/new features added now to make a release: You can check the actual Changelog here (there's some other little things, listed in the trunk revision log). If something in there interests you and are not afraid of beta testing , I've uploaded an 1.01 update package here. This is a beta package, remember, so things could be broken. You just have to extract contents into the application folder (and replace the pms.jar file). An official 1.02 version will follow next.

v1.00 / project status
first of all, I would like to thank all those who have donated, as it's kinda motivating to work like this :) Also, thanks for encouraging emails...
Project current status needs also some clarity: As I'm redistributing GPL components inside the PMS package (Mplayer, Mencoder, etc.), my project has by definition GPL license too. So I've uploaded the sources on this newly created code.google.com project (OSX version, anyone ? :p), along with a google group dedicated to PMS. So if you have any questions, requests, issues, you can try there.
Now, about 1.00 version. It's a good step as I think the product somewhat stable (I'm using it since 2 months now). Small update anyway, and there's still some issues though, mostly about network, synched A/V, and video compatibility. I hope these will be solved with time. Also, the auto update feature will come one day, but meantime, from now on, I'll try to support existing PMS.conf files to make you avoid reconfigure settings for each new version. Some other features are on their way (parsing cache, start as a windows service), but not stable enough to include them in this release.
Download PMS v1.00 for Windows/Linux
Here's the changelog:
- New Features
GPL licensing :)
IDX/SUB support for AviSynth ONLY
Revamped some UI, especially transcoding settings for better usage (hope this will be not confusing)
First attempt to make a working and generic LPCM or AC3 automatic conversion with tsMuxer (seeking isn't working well and demuxed audio delays are not managed)
AviSynth script is now really fully customizable
- Fixes
Yet another flac parsing bug
Sync issues management for xvid/mp3
Rare and random video glitch due to another seeking bug
.ass subtitles files support
UUID random generation, it's now possible to launch multiple servers on one network.
Added wmv binary codecs in Windows package for smooth WMV-HD transcoding
VIDEO_TS folders are now case insensitive

v0.99
Sunday has arrived and the new version as well! I have hopefully fixed many bugs with network / transcoder / video compatibility and added as well the DVD ISO/VIDEO_TS transcoder, thanks to Mencoder. As some of you kindly suggested me, and also as I stopped counting my hours on this project :), I've added a donation link on the right side of this blog.
Also, the next version (1.00) will be most likely focused on bugs fixing / usability (something like auto-update, with saved parameters), so if anything goes wrong with this one, just drop an email to ps3mediaserver at gmail.com with detailed infos on what isn't working, joined with the debug file if possible.
PMS 0.99 for Windows

v0.97
The new version (0.97) is now ready to be released ! I've added some interesting features, such as a graphical interface to configure the application (no more file to edit!), the ability to remux without transcode in real time for those running on Windows, thanks to tsMuxer, and some little other things. I've hopefully solved this annonying upnp advertising bug, which was preventing some people to make the server work on ps3.

You can download the server here:
PMS 0.97 for Windows (8.4 Mb)
PMS 0.97 for Windows [mirror]
PMS 0.97 for Linux (2.6 Mb)
Here is the complete changelog:
- Added: GUI Configuration / Transcoding options, encoding presets, etc.
- Added: Ability to choose the default transcoding engine (mencoder only, avisynth+mencoder, avisynth+ffmpeg, tsmuxer, or none)
- Added: tsMuxer as a real time muxer (experimental)
- Added: A good audio tag reader library (http://entagged.sourceforge.net/)
- Fixed: Bugs in UPNP advertising. PS3 should see the server now (if not, please send the debug.log file in the application folder to ps3mediaserver at gmail.com)
- Fixed: Mencoder font cache bug which prevents transcode to start
- Fixed: DLNA errors due to character encoding
- Fixed: New folders were not refreshed automatically
- Fixed: (maybe) Network streaming performance issue (need feedback on this)
I will try to add in the future, the possibility to serve lossless audio for those DTS based movies the ps3 does not support as a streaming client (not as easy as it seems :\). Ultimately, evolve this application in a blu ray movies streamer would be great but maybe I dream too much :p

PS3 Media Server
I'm currently transcoding in real-time and no quality loss, 1080p mkv files. The drawback is the high bitrate your network must support: with the default settings, specific scenes with a lot of details (e.g.: zoom on a newspaper article) can have bitrates near 100mb/s, so gigabit is maybe useful.
The fact is, in order to see HD videos it's better to have an ethernet wired PS3 !

PMS 0.96 for Linux
Current features
Requirements
Installation
Transcoding on Windows
2 possible methods:
A) Using the server "as is": No codecs pack to install, it will use Mencoder for the transcoding part.
B) Using Avisynth/FFDshow. Paired with CoreAVC, it's quite efficient with multi cores.
Transcoding on Linux
You just need to have mplayer, mencoder and ffmpeg binaries on your path (the more recent, the better).
Usage
By default, wmv, avi, mpeg files are streamable, except in case of srt/sub file present with the same file name. All videos can be transcoded, as each streamable video appears once into its folder, and once into a special folder "#Transcoded#" present in each sub folder, with different options (audio/subtitles/other transcoding tools maybe) so you can choose what's working best on ps3. However, only ogg, flac, and mpc audio files can be transcoded (I assume all mp3, wma and wav files can be played 'as is' by the ps3)
History:
- Interactive way of choosing your audio language, subtitles and transcoder mode (see #Transcoded# Folder)
- Interactive settings (see #Settings# Folder)
- Better subtitles looking
- Folders browsing optimization
- Several network errors fixes with 2.52 firmware
- A lot of small things

How to Choose an Xbox 360 Repair Guide
What to Look for When Choosing a repair Guide
Here’s what I would look for and have, when I was searching for a guide to help me fix my console and I wouldn’t settle for anything less, that’s for sure!
1. The first thing you should do, once you find a guide your interested in, is to check out their author, see what their all about, what their real objective is, are they really there to help you, or are they just trying to make a quick buck off your efforts to only give you a product they printed up in a matter of minutes. All in all, make sure their an expert in their field first!
2. Does the Xbox 360 repair guide contain detailed, written step by step instructions with pictures? I am the type of person who doesn't want to leave anything up to chance. If you are going to teach me how to do anything, you need to explain each step carefully. Also, I want as many pictures as possible. And not just lots of pictures, but high quality detailed pictures. So, the guide you purchase needs to contain high quality, detailed, written, step by step instructions with lots of pictures.
3. Make sure the guide is not just a guide but rather a program/course of some sort that includes videos, yeah videos make it so much more easier, rather than reading everything, make sure the videos are of good quality and walk you through each step in a hand holding manor.
4. What if I have questions? Does the guide come with support? The Xbox 360 's manufacturer spans more than a couple of years now and not every Xbox 360 is the same. So, I want to be able to ask somebody a question if I get stuck. You need some kind of support. It could be chat, email, whatever, but, you need to be able to talk to someone and ask them a question.
5. Step five, find out if the guide is available A.S.A.P, this is extremely important, you want to fix your Xbox 360 now, not tomorrow, you don’t want to wait a week for it to be delivered in the mail, you want it now, so you can play your favorite games as soon as possible. If your kicking out the $30 bucks or whatever the cost is, you want what you paid for immediately.
6. Make sure there is a guarantee, that way if you find out after you get the guide that it’s not what you wanted or can’t help with your particular problem, make sure you can ask for a no hassle refund without any problems!
That’s it, now you know what to look for when you’re ready to get an Xbox 360 repair guide to help you fix your favorite console and remember, don’t settle for less!
If you would like to skip right through all this and get the Xbox 360 repair guide I recommend most, that get the Xbox 360 red Light Fix guide, you just won’t be as happy anywhere else.

Got the Xbox error E74 – Ouch!

If there’s one red lights flashing on your Xbox 360 in an error message of E74 showing up on your television screen, you’ve got a pretty big mess ahead of you to fix up. If your Xbox 360 is still under warranty, your best bet is to let Microsoft fix it for you, error E74 is a son of a gun.
It’s been said that all Xbox 360 errors originate from overheating, so the best thing you can do is just use a lot of preventive maintenance tricks, maybe install an extra cooling fan, system attachment of some sort. Whenever the case may be for error you get, you’re going to want to fix it as fast as possible before more damage happens.
Error code E74 happens to be the worst of all error codes, if you can repair the problem with the X-clamp trick or penny trick which indicates you apply pressure to the processor chips inside your console GPU and CPU, if that doesn’t work then the only conclusion you can come up with next is it might be the Hana chip or scalar chip, as either burned out from excess of playing. You can either learn how to replace this and repair it yourself or have Microsoft do it for you, if you choose that Microsoft repair the error for you and you’re not covered under the warranty it could be very expensive.
If you choose to let Microsoft repair the error for you, it could cost up to $140 and be a six week waiting time before you get your Xbox 360 back, however if you would like to try other techniques first like the X-clamp method or penny fix, please refer to the link at the bottom of this article.
Allot of people are choosing to fix their own Xbox 360 consoles, in fact you can find a lot of do it yourself guides online just by browsing around for a few minutes typing in common repair words such as; Xbox 360 fix, Xbox 360 repair, how to fix my Xbox 360 and so on using Google.
Xbox 360 error E74 is a difficult one to fix but doesn’t mean you can repair it yourself if you’d like to learn more about how you can fix this error please get this

The Broken Xbox 360 3 Red Light Error Fix
Depending on what the existent problem is, with 90% of all regular Xbox 360 failures, your console should be up and running within an hour after starting the repair operation.
You'll find this article will give you a very clear plan where to start, what you need to do, and where should go to get the right kind of help. I won't be able to completely explain every step to fixing your console it in this article, but I can definitely show the right place to get the help you need.
Because the Xbox 360 is likely to overheat, this problem alone is the number one reason why it other Xbox 360 errors and problems happen. If you leave your Xbox 360 on for longer than just a couple of hours you'll notice right away just by placing your hand on the console of how hot they get.
Of course this heat is not at all good for the brittle components inside, and the lack of air flow only adds to the problem. Extreme amounts of heat can cause damage to the processor, memory, hard drive and basically anything else inside!
The funny thing is, why the every so popular "3 Red Light Error" occur, is because the Xbox 360 heats up so much that it melts lead free based soldering around the GPU processor, leading to 3 flashing lights on the outside of the console and an entire system shutdown.
Hopefully you can better see now, why the majority of all Xbox 360 problems occur, (from overheating) and now you can be better prepared to fix your Broken Xbox 360 console.
In order to repair your console it is important to establish exactly what caused the fault, and what needs to be done to solve this particular issue.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to get an Xbox 360 repair guide, to fix your broken Xbox 360 the right way with instructions in front of you, helping you every step of the way!
Another thing you can do, is find a review on the different Xbox 360 guides available, there are lots of Xbox 360 repair guides, but not all of them are good, so finding a review, you'll be able to get a better idea of what guide will work best for you and your particular Xbox 360 error code.

How to Remove Scratches on Xbox 360 Games
It’s happened so much to so many different people around the world, that Xbox 360 (Microsoft) actually spoke up, stating they would replace any video game their console (Xbox 360) destroys.
Maybe you don’t want to wait 3 weeks for your games or favorite game to come back, maybe it’s just a tiny scratch just bad enough so it won’t play right, whatever the case might be, you can learn how to easily fix the problems (scratches) right now…Are you ready?
Stuff you’ll need:
1. Roll of paper towels
2. New tube of Colgate toothpaste
3. Peanut butter
4. Can of diet coke or celsur water
5. Baking soda
6. Rubber canister (Tupperware)
The first thing your going to want to do is squeeze some toothpaste onto a piece of paper towel, then gently rub it onto your scratched CD, lather it on nice and smoothly so the CD is completely covered.
Next: Watch this Videos
Then put some peanut butter onto a piece of paper towel and lather that on top of the toothpaste on the scratched CD so that it’s completely covered the entire game, mixing the two together.
Easily buff the scratches out with a new piece of paper towel, you’ll notice it working right away, just be careful not to rub too hard. Once you’ve removed all the toothpaste and peanut butter, reapply again, adding more toothpaste and peanut butter to buff out the deeper scratches.
Now grab your rubber container (Tupperware) and place your CD covered in peanut butter and toothpaste into the Rubber canister pouring your can of diet coke or celsur water on top of it, just enough so that the liquid is the least 1 inches above the CD in the canister.
Next, sprinkle a handful of baking soda on top then place the cover on the Rubber Container and shake it up a little bit, let it sit for a good 5 to 10 minutes.
After the waiting time is over go ahead and pull your CD back out, and start rubbing off the toothpaste in peanut butter, you’ll notice it’ll be a little more difficult to remove the toothpaste because it got wet, but you’ll see a world of difference when there’s no scratches on your game.
Believe it or not this trick works and has worked for quite a few years now, make sure to always use the right type of toothpaste, if you use toothpaste that has beads or any other type of the material in it, other than just toothpaste, you’ll end up scratching your games more..
That’s all there is to this article, now go ahead and give it a try, you’ll be amazed at how well it works!

The Best Xbox 360 Repair Guides Review
When it comes to working on your Xbox 360, you can’t be safe enough, always making sure your console (Xbox 360) gets fixed the best way possible, as well as making sure it gets repaired good enough so the problem doesn’t happen again.
In fact, if you know the basics of keeping better preventive maintenance on your Xbox 360, the less of a chance it has of running into problems or getting strange error codes later on.
What I’ve done for the purpose of this article and to better help you, is review every single Xbox 360 repair guide I could find, online and off, only 3 of them past my standards…only 3 made the grade!
Now my standards are not just about what I think, No.No..No…
I actually went the distance with this, something I don’t think too many people or others would even consider doing, what I did, was compile a list of questions (a survey) I guess you could call it and I ran the survey for 3 months on a partners website, for this sake, I can’t reveal the website, but all I can say is "it's a very popular one!!!"
I asked several Xbox 360 owners worldwide (total of 3,479 people) a series of questions about the type of service they would expect to receive if they ordered an Xbox 360 repair guide, everyone single person said they would not purchase the guide if it didn’t include; excellent service, 24/7 support, preventive maintenance tips, how to fix more than just the 3 red light error, crystal clear video tutorials with DETAILS from beginning to end on all repairs and easy to follow techniques as well as an easy, no-hassle refund policy!
Out of all the people that took the survey, only 1 Xbox 360 repair guide provided 90% of what those 3,749 people expected an Xbox 360 repair guide to provide.
Xbox 360 Red Light Fix is not only the people's choice but happens to be my personal favorite as well, just because they were nice enough to let me review their members area for free for all my test results, which none of the others would do…That says allot about the company and their Xbox 360 repair guide. Where to Repair Your Xbox 360
No doubt, this article will surely show you the different ways and techniques you can use to repair your Xbox 360.
1.Yes, you could of course send your Xbox 360 into Microsoft for repair, but as you know, that's going to be very expensive, probably more money than you want to invest and...
2.The next option you have to repair your Xbox 360 is to send it to a third party company and they will do the repair work for you. This is a great choice if you are willing to take a bit of a gamble. The gamble is that although the delivery times will be fast and you will get your Xbox back quicker, as it is not Microsoft you have no idea if the problem will not happen again!
3. Your third options is...You, overhaul your own Xbox 360 right at home because all you really need is a good Xbox 360 Repair tutorial to get it done correctly. I know it sounds a bit out of wack but you really can fix yourself, without a problem. If your going to go down this route it is recommended that you find a tutorial with videos, making sure it gets done right.
What’s the best choice to repair your XBOX 360?
Attention: If your Xbox 360 is still covered under the original warranty and has something seriously wrong with it, it's probably the best choice for you to send in to them, to fix it for you and it won't cost you a penny either as long as the warranty is still good.
Now you know your choices and whichever one you choose, I stand behind you all the way and want to see you happily playing your favorite games again more than anyone, because I too know just how fun that awesome little machine can be!
One other thing I didn't mention, is an alternative to all 3 options above, what I'm talking about is to get yourself an Xbox 360 repair guide, now not just any old guide, that's why I'm going to just recommend one, that is in my opinion the best guide available, I wouldn't recommend any other, the Xbox 360 guide I'm talking about of course is, Xbox 360 Red Light Fix (Xbox360RedLightFix.com), they not only provide awesome video tutorials on just about every error code you can think of, but also have an awesome set of preventive maintenance tips that you just can't find anywhere. Here's the link, go ahead and take a quick look, this guide just simple rocks!

About Me

I'm an avid gamer who loves his Xbox 360 a bunch.
Much like everyone else out there in this world that owns an Xbox 360, I started on the Atari back when I was 8 living in Sacramento California.
Ever since then, I've had an addiction to playing video games and trying my hardest to either beat or master every game I own lol!
I've probably spent nearly a million dollars in the arcades throughout my life so far - who hasn't right?
I'm 27 years old, I currently live in Denver Colorado and I'm single whoooo! Ladies watch out!!!
I started this blog recently to help those with all the major complications the Xbox 360 comes with, I've come to find out (the hard way) that if you keep preventive maintenance on your console, your less likely to have major problems with it later.
I'm trying my best to keep my new blog updated with new content and solutions to different errors the Xbox is known for.
If anyone has any comments or suggestions please feel free to contact me anytime at baclinsblog@gmail.com
I hope you find the answers your looking for on this blog and if you don't you will the next time you visit.
Thanks for stopping by,
Adam
How to Fix the Xbox 360 Unplayable Disc Error
First things first, there’s no way around it, you have to open up your Xbox 360 meaning take it apart, if you’re not aware of Microsoft warranty policy, you automatically void your warranty if you open your console up, there’s a seal and the only way to open your console is by breaking it.
If you’re aware of this that’s fine if not in your still covered under the warranty why not just let Microsoft fix it for no-cost or no headache that we don’t do it yourself.
To fix the unplayable disc error the first thing you do is have to take your Xbox apart, if your not sure how to do this, you can either visit the website below, the link is available at the end of this article, where you can learn how to properly take your Xbox apart or you can browse around online, go to YouTube, search Google and learn how to do it there. Once you figure out how to take your Xbox apart then we can get to solving the unplayable disc error, it’s not complicated, just a few simple adjustments.
At either your Xbox apart you’ll need to pull your DVD drive out, make sure to unplug it first, once you got your DVD drive out you going to have to take better part, it’s not complicated don’t be intimidated.
What happened is the motor runs out of lubricant, much like an automobile runs out oil and the motor seizes up, it’s not that severe but just enough to make the motor not run properly.
So once you got the dvd-drive apart you’ll have to pull the motor out, kick yourself acute tip or cotton swab and rub all the excess grease off the back of the motor, to be a little rod that connects the motor to the chassis of the DVD drive make sure to clean out of properly as well, then you can get yourself some WD 40, spray it on to your cotton swab gently rubbing around the motor so that it’s well lubed up.
All you have to after you’ve properly greased the motor out is just put your DVD drive back together an Xbox 360 back together, make sure not to put too much lubed on, then after me things back together: give it a try, nine times of 10 this is the problem and it will work to fix it.

How to Take your Xbox 360 Hard Drive apart!
For whatever reason your taking your Xbox 360 Hard drive apart, you’ll need to know how first right?
Well, this video should show you. If you’re not sure how to take your console apart to get to the hard drive, watch this video>>>>Dismantle Xbox 360
Things you’ll need:
- T10 Screwdriver (Allen wrench)
- T6 Screwdriver (Allen wrench)
- Patience & Determination
The hard drive is a very small piece of equipment and takes allot of patience to work with it, the screws are tiny, the parts are tiny and all and all it just makes things that much more difficult to work with.
Note: You will void the warranty on the hard drive if you take it apart!
First step, remove the warranty sticker, pull out your size T6 Allen wrench and on screw all 4 screws on each side of the drive.
After you get the screws out, carefully, I mean carefully open with the flat side pointing down, because you don’t want the latching mechanism falling apart while taking apart. (Watch this video to see)
Now, pull out your size T10 Allen wrench and take out the next 4 screws holding down the heat guard, once you get the heat guard off (which is easy to do) disconnect the serial adapter (seen in video)
Be very careful when you get to this point, you don’t want all the miniature springs parts and plastic pieces following up all over the place.
All you need to do now, is just slide the actual hard drive out of its casing and that’s it!!!
This can be a very easy job or an extremely pain in the butt job, it just depends on how you go about taking the Xbox 360 hard drive apart.

The Xbox 360 Penny Fix Trick
A. K. A (The Xbox 360 Penny Fix)…
In order to make this work, you’re going to have to strip down your Xbox 360, all the way down to the motherboard, if you’re not sure how to dismantle your Xbox please watch this video Dismantle Xbox 360.
Once you got your Xbox 360 apart and the motherboard rate in front of you (main circuit board) it’s time for the penny fix.
Things you’ll need to make it work.
1. A new role of pennies
2. Roll of black tape
3. Electrical Glue
So this is what you do, the steps to take.
Take 2 to 3 pennies; stack them on top of each other so it looks 2 to 3 pennies thick.
Take your electrical tape; wrap the pennies so there’s no copper showing at all (make four separate stacks of 3 stack pennies).
On each ram chip use a very small amount of hot glue to stick the stacked of wrapped penny’s to the ram (if you don’t have a hot glue gun, you can use women’s salon nail pads) they work good and don’t leave an ugly mess behind when you take the pennies back off later!
When putting your screws back in, if you used three pennies for your stack don’t screw in the black screws that hold the CPU in GPU – leave them off.
Scroll all the other screws in slow evenly finally tightening them, making sure that all the inputs match up correctly with the holes in the metal casings.
You can watch this video to see how it’s done here.

My Honest 3 Red Light Fix Review
This is my review on 3 Red Light Fix’s Xbox 360 repair manual…

I’ll start this off by saying I’m not a strong supporter of this particular repair guide, however it is an OK guide to help you fix the 3 red light error, the only problem is, it doesn’t cover more than 10% of other common Xbox 360 errors and is my only reasoning for not completely recommending it, some people would go as far as calling it a rip off or a scam because they could find on their own, using Google or Yahoo, what this particular guide sells you for $25 bucks.
I bought this guide 3 months ago when I was having problems with my console, along with the Xbox 360 Red Light Fix’s repair guide (there is a Big Difference between the two). I was able to compare them both at them time, because I had the $60 bucks to spend on’em, I wanted to make sure I fixed my console the best that I could, I’m sure you can understand that!

The fact that Xbox 360 Red Light Fix does cover 90% of all Xbox 360 errors and gives you solutions awesome videos, Step-By-Step hand-holding guidance, while 3 Red Light Fix doesn’t, is the reason why I don’t recommend getting this guide.
So please take my advice and don’t buy the 3 Red Light Fix repair guide.
If you can’t find the solution to your looking for, by browsing around my blog, I have tons of different tutorials, pages and solutions, then I do recommend getting Xbox 360 Red Light Fix because they guarantee your Xbox will be repaired or they’ll pay you $30.00, now that’s a nice guarantee!
Here’s the link Xbox 360 Red Light Fix
If you have any questions please leave a comment, I hope my review was helpful and you’re able to better make a decision when it comes to getting the right guide for your Xbox 360 error, thanks!!!
So your Xbox 360 Freezes up huh?
When people say freezing it usually the other way around, (your Xbox is actually overheating.)
Depending on how many hours your Xbox 360 is on could be the main cause of your games freezing up, however that’s not always the case, it’s been suggested that there’s an actual failure with the GPU processor and why it freezes up.
The best way to get around your Xbox from freezing up is to install an extra cooling system, a cooling fan of some sort. It’s recommended, that you do install an extra cooling fan because the Xbox 360 is well known for overheating, plus when you install a new cooling fan or replace the original you’ll notice a big difference in sound, "allot quieter".
You can go to consoles shop and get yourself a whisper fan, there really affordable and easy to install and make a world of difference, I’m not guaranteeing you that it will fix the freezing problem but I can promise you, that you won’t have any more problems with overheating. Seeing how they’re both related it won’t hurt.
But if you’ve already been through that or tried some how to prevent your Xbox from overheating or maybe you have even gone as far as already installing a new cooling system, it’s most likely going to be a GPU processor problem, just like with anything else, things get old from wear and tear that’s normal.
You might not need the even to replace the GPU it could be just gunked up with gunk and all you need to do is clean it, you can watch a few videos found on this site, here’s a link to learn how to dismantle your Xbox 360.
Whatever the actual problem might be, you’ll find that it’s actually something very easy to fix, overheating and freezing are so common that it’s nothing to be too worried about.
If you’d like to learn some great prevention tips "Xbox 360 preventive maintenance" I highly recommend getting the Xbox 360 red light fix guide that will teach you and show you every trick and tip there is, to keeping your Xbox 360 in tiptop shape especially from freezing.
